Providing access to higher education for all students
Dual credit is concurrent enrollment of students in college courses while still in high school, allowing them to earn both college and high school credit for the courses.
Tuition Payment
Payments for the dual credit program are available online using the RevTrak system. Payments may be submitted using the following link: galenaparkisd.revtrak.net/
Benefits
- Dual credit courses allow students to earn college credits while in high school. Once a student earns a passing grade in the class, the student will earn the college credit.
- Students will experience a smoother transition between high school and college.
- Students will have first-hand exposure to college-level work while still in high school.
- Students have an opportunity to begin their freshman year of college with college credits while they also earn credits toward high school graduation.

What is the difference between AP and Dual Credit?
- Advanced Placement courses are part of the College Board organization that requires students to take a rigorous test at the end of the course to potentially earn college credit. A dual credit course on the other hand is an official course offered by San Jacinto College.
- AP exams require a passing score of a 3, 4, or 5 on the exam to earn the college credit. In dual credit courses, students are graded on their coursework over a semester. The students must earn a passing grade in order to receive the college credit.
- Most ivy league colleges/universities prefer AP exam scores over credits earned through the dual credit program.
- In Galena Park ISD the student decides, at the beginning of the school year, whether or not to take the AP exam for the course administered at the end of the school year.

Eligibility
A high school student is eligible to enroll in dual credit courses if:
- The student demonstrates college readiness by achieving the minimum passing standards under the provisions of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA 1) : 351+ on Reading, 340+ on Writing and at least a 4 on the essay, and/or 350+ on math.
- The student demonstrates college readiness by achieving the minimum passing standards under the provisions of the Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) : 945+ on Reading and at least a 5 on the essay, and/or 950+ on math.
- The student achieves a score of 480 on the Evidenced-Based Reading Writing (EBRW) portion or a 530 on the math portion of the PSAT/NMSQT relevant to the courses to be attempted.
- The student achieves a composite score of 23 on the ACT with a 19 or higher in mathematics and/or English.
- The eligible high school student earns a score of 4000+ on the English I STAAR End-of-Course exam, English II STAAR End-of-Course exam, or English III End-of-Course Exam, or the Algebra II End-of-Course Exam.

The moment has arrived! Graduating seniors can begin applying to colleges as early as July 1st. Many of the more selective colleges and universities have early- to mid- October deadlines for enrollment the following fall. Others may have deadlines in December, late in the spring, or may even continue taking applications through the summer. Below are some helpful guidelines will make the application process easier, and prevent last-minute surprises.

- Apply early in order to have time to review and compare scholarship and financial aid offers, and see if any schools require enrollment into summer preparatory courses.
- Read the application instructions carefully and be sure to provide all of the required information and materials-such as copies of high school transcripts or letters of reference.
- Respond to all requests for additional information immediately and keep records of the responses.
- Keep a file with a copy of the applications and other materials, reference letters, scholarship applications, copies of letters from the colleges or universities, and copies of the letters to the schools.

Steps to Enrolling
- Apply Online - www.applytexas.org. Students must respond to the email from San Jacinto College acknowledging admissions and access the assigned San Jac ID # (G########)
- Testing - Students must meet one of the college readiness qualifications
- Vaccination - Students must have a current meningitis vaccination on file with the school nurse.
- Registration - All students meet with the Academic Advisor on their campus and sign the Dual Credit Request form
- Payment - Payments may be submitted online using RevTrak or in person at the Counselors' Office on the campus
