PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
On Wednesday, October 11, 2023, the highest ranking students in the 10th and 11th grades will be provided the opportunity to take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test administered by the College Board. The PSAT/NMSQT has been designed to mirror the SAT. Any student or the parent of a student in the 10th or 11th grade may request to take the exam. The request must be made prior to the September 10, 2023 deadline for ordering the exam.
Galena Park ISD provides all students with academic opportunities needed to prepare them for college and beyond. Participation in the PSAT/NMSQT is an important step in preparing for college. The PSAT/NMSQT measures the reading, math, and writing skills needed for college and career planning.
Students can prepare for this exam by reviewing the information on the PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide that will be sent home with students prior to the test administration. The College Board has partnered with Khan Academy to provide free SAT/PSAT online practice. The customized test preparation will offer skill based videos and practice SAT/PSAT questions to support students who plan on taking the PSAT/NMSQT. After the test, a score report will be sent to each student highlighting the strengths and weaknesses pertaining to college readiness. Once a student receives the score reports, he/she is able to connect their College Board and Khan Academy accounts to get free personalized learning plans based on test performance. 11th graders who score well may qualify for National Merit Recognition and Scholarships.

The ACT is one of the leading U.S. college admissions test measuring what students learn in high school to determine their academic readiness for college.

The ACT exam will be administered during the school day on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 and Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
Test Instructions:
Fee waivers CANNOT be used to register for this test. Students will use the RevTrak system to pay on the galenaparkisd.com website. ***NOTE: Dual credit students--if you choose to take the test during the school day administration, you will be absent (excused) from your college class. Students are only allowed 3 total absences, so be wise in your decision.
